• What is BuckUp?

  BuckUp is a free iPhone altimeter app for off-road drivers that measures elevation gain in Bucks — one Buck equals 1,000 vertical feet per session. It uses the iPhone's barometric pressure sensor (CMAltimeter) with GPS as backup, and the core app works fully offline with no account required.
• What does a Buck actually measure?

  One Buck equals 1,000 vertical feet of elevation gain in a single off-road session. 2.5 Bucks is a serious day, 5 Bucks is a full alpine run.
• Does BuckUp work offline?

  Yes. The barometric altimeter, the gauge, the Buck Log, and 25 bundled marquee topo cards all work without cell service. Cloud sync of your log is optional and runs only if you sign in; the remaining 2,375 topo cards stream from topo.buckup.app when you have signal.
• How accurate is BuckUp's altitude reading?

  BuckUp reads altitude from the iPhone's barometric pressure sensor (CMAltimeter), which is smoother and more responsive than GPS in canyons, switchbacks, and tree cover. GPS altitude runs as a self-correcting backup. Readings drift with weather pressure changes by up to ±50 ft over a long session — fine for off-road logging, not for aviation.
• How do I attach a photo to a Buck Log entry?

  Open the entry from the Buck Log, tap the photo slot at the top of the detail view, and pick from your camera roll. The photo persists locally even if you're signed out, and syncs to your account on next launch if you choose to sign in. Once attached, the photo becomes the hero on your Buck Shot summit card.
• A patch I earned isn't showing on my wall. What do I do?

  Patches save locally first. Force-quit BuckUp (swipe up, flick the card off the top) and reopen — the wall rebuilds from disk on launch. If a patch is still missing and you're signed in, patches will sync automatically from your account on next launch. If a patch is still missing after signing in and reopening, email admin@buckup.app with your session date and the patch name.
• A topo card isn't loading on a destination's detail view. Why?

  Topo cards stream from topo.buckup.app over the network. The 25 marquee destinations are bundled offline; the rest need cell or Wi-Fi. If you're offline and seeing a placeholder, that's expected. If you have signal and a card still won't load, force-quit and reopen — the cache will retry on next view.
• Sub Buck destinations show in cool blue instead of amber. Is that a bug?

  No, that's correct. Sub Buck is BuckUp's track for below-sea-level destinations (Badwater, Bombay Beach, the Lower Ninth Ward, etc.) and they intentionally render in cool blue (#4FB1F5) to visually separate them from above-sea-level peaks.
• The Explore tab is slow to scroll the first time I open it.

  First open downloads the topo card thumbnails for the destinations you're filtering. Subsequent opens read from the on-device cache and are instant. If scrolling stays choppy after the first session, force-quit and email admin@buckup.app with your iPhone model and iOS version.
• I can't find the Live Activity or widget after purchasing.

  The unlock activates immediately, but you have to add the widget yourself: long-press your Home Screen → tap the + in the corner → search BuckUp → pick a size. Live Activity starts automatically the first time you tap SADDLE UP after the unlock — make sure Live Activities is enabled in iOS Settings → BuckUp.
• The Dynamic Island shows the altitude truncated. Is that fixed?

  As of build 52, yes. 5-digit altitudes (14,505 ft etc.) now use a minimum scale factor so the number always fits. If you're still seeing truncation, force-quit BuckUp and reopen — the Live Activity will redraw at the next altitude update.
• How do I restore my purchases on a new iPhone?

  Open BuckUp → Settings → Restore Purchases. Receipts are tied to your Apple ID, so anything you bought is yours forever across every iPhone signed into that account.
• How do I delete my BuckUp account?

  Open Profile tab → gear icon → Account Actions → Delete Account. Type DELETE to confirm. The Edge Function verifies your token, revokes Apple sign-in best-effort, deletes your server record, and the app wipes local data after the server confirms — server-first, irreversible. • Is BuckUp safe to use while driving?

  Set up the session before you drive — tap SADDLE UP at the trailhead, mount the phone, and don't interact with the app while moving. BuckUp is a souvenir and a gauge, not a navigation tool. Not for aviation or emergency use.
